Our Wedding Belles exhibit opened with a reception on June 26 previewing wedding apparel of the early 20th century. Curator Patricia Weeden and assistant curator Kathy Bossy presented a brief overview of the unique quality and styles of wedding apparal of that time. The revolving exhibit ran from June 27 to July 8.
Much of the off season was spent preparing for the exhibit. With more than 74 gowns to choose from, plus the many other dress and suits which were worn by brides, Pat, professor emerita of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design at URI, decided that each ensemble must have a South County connection and not have been displayed in previous years. The exhibit included not only 19 wedding gowns but also a gentleman's wedding suit from the 1930s. |
