Field Trips
Come join the fun! Field trips at South County Museum bring history to life, and are available for school and camp groups.
Founded in 1933, the Museum honors Rhode Island's village
communities formed around agriculture, maritime activities, and millwork. Central to our mission is encouraging curious learners of all ages to explore, engage, and
experience history.
What to Expect
Visit the Exhibition Hall and complete our scavenger hunt while viewing antique tools, toys, high-style fashions, furnishings, and much more. Museum staff will offer stories and demonstrations appropriate to the age and interest level of field trip participants.
The visit continues in our studio workshops. Demonstrations are currently available in blacksmithing, printing, woodworking, and textiles. See basic forging skills with our blacksmith or watch the magic as textiles are naturally dyed. Traditional printing techniques and wood carving are also often on show.
Find out more about agriculture in Southern Rhode Island by visiting our working farm. Meet the animals - including two heritage flocks of the official state bird, the Rhode Island Red, and a pair of Narragansett turkeys. Our herb and dye gardens showcase a variety of plants.
Bring a bagged lunch or snack to enjoy on-site before or after your tour. We have several outdoor picnic benches and can accommodate guests inside if it rains. Proper outdoor attire, dress in layers, comfortable shoes for walking, consider waterproof shoes for rainy days, insect repellant, sunscreen, and additional blankets for picnicking are recommended.
The guided aspects of the trip last about 90 min. All field trips begin in the exhibition hall. Large groups will be divided into groups of 10 -12 students. Field trips are $10 dollars per student. (Chaperones are free.)
