Dear Friends and Members,

The South County Museum is back open for regular visits, and we can’t wait to share what we have planned for August!

If that last month of summer vacation is beginning to look very long indeed, we have some family events planned to help keep everyone entertained. On Wednesday August 12, join us from 4:30 – 7:00 for an open-house style craft night. Pack a picnic and choose between kid-friendly classes in weaving, painting, or natural dyeing. The pot holder weaving class has a limited number of hand looms available, so preregistration is required - click here to reserve a spot! Admission is $10 per participating child. Children included in family memberships can enjoy free admission to painting or dyeing; due to materials cost, pot holder weaving is $10 for all.

Our Music at the Museum concerts return on Wednesday August 19th at 5:00! Bee and the Boys will open for headliner Rhode to Bali. This is a picnic-style family event, so bring some food, chairs, and a picnic blanket. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

And don’t forget your summer reading! At 6:00 on Wednesday September 2nd, we’ll be hosting a book club discussion of Glenn Adamson’s Craft: An American History. We’ve rescheduled our postponed exhibit opening for the same date, so after our discussion, you’ll be invited to get a first look at two new exhibits on needlework and shoemaking, and participate in Q&A’s with the curators. Between Adamson’s work and the SCM’s collections, this event promises to be a rich conversation about American craft.  Order your copy from your local library or bookseller now so you’ll be ready to join us! This event will be $10 for the public and free to members.

There’s more to come in August, with an adult weaving showcase on the 22nd and family back-to-school bingo on the 26th. And our quilt show, running September 11-13th, is just around the corner!  Keep an eye on your inbox and our website to stay up-to-date. We can’t wait to see you!

Join the Museum! As a member, you’ll enjoy benefits like free admission and discounted class prices. Join our community of history lovers and artisans today and help keep time-honored traditions alive!
